I live in miami, Im switching from u verse internet to comcast since I can only recieve 6mbps in my area from them and I don't find it good enough for pc gaming or maybe im wrong. I was wondering if it was possible for me to pick up the comcast equipment and connect it myself without them coming out since I know I have a live cable at home even if I have no other service with them?

Yes, you can install the equipment yourself. It is no big deal. A Comcast installer may need to install some sort of equipment on your cable. You can save a bit by buying your own modem instead of renting.

But... I don't think the maximum download speeds are the critical thing for gaming. I think it is the ping time or latency.
You might want to find some forums for your game and look into that aspect.

6 is a little low. You definitely feel is drag esp if your doing anything else on your network.

I would actually make sure you have a Gigabit ethernet port on your motherboard. Just to make sure you have no problems or bottlenecks related to that.
