Hi,
I put this system together about 2 weeks ago and everything seemed to work fine except for the wireless network PCIe card. It worked OK on Ubuntu GNU-Linux, but as soon as I installed any drivers on Windows 7 Home Premium, the system would bluescreen me every boot until I took the PCIe card out.
I figured though it was because I had bought a cheap one, so I returned the PCIe card and spent a little more, buying an Asus one for the Asus motherboard (Z87-A). This card seemed to work fine to start with, but now it is causing the system to freeze when I install the drivers direct from Asus or when doing it via Windows Update, it hangs at the loading "updating windows" screen.
So again, I have taken the PCIe card out and am using the wired ethernet.
There was also a strange BIOS problem when I used the Asus EZ Update tool to update the BIOS to the latest, the system would not boot and I had to power it down, pull out the mobo battery then reflash the BIOS to v1203. I have not yet manually tried flashing the BIOS with a newer version, the only thing the newer version of the BIOS claims to change though is better DTS, which I do not use.
I am worried now though that the motherboard may be faulty, I do not have any other PCIe cards to test as I will not be buying a dedicated GPU for several months.
Any ideas on how I can go about finding out if there is a problem with the BIOS, with the drivers and/or Windows, or with the motherboard hardware itself.
System:
Asus Z87-A motherboard
Intel i5-4670k
Cooler Master Hyper Evo 212 Heatsink/Fan, with AS5
Samsung SSD 840 pro (although I have tried an older HDD too).
2*4GB of Corsair Vengeance 1600MhZ DDR3
Seasonic 650G 80+ Gold PSU
Asus N300 PCIe Wireless adapter card
Antec One Case
Samsung 24* DVD-RW
Thanks in advance, I know it is somewhat vague, happy to provide as much detail as is required.
