Will win 7 or 8 run on a dual xeon server like Dell PowerEdge 2950?

OS/Hardware compatibility
Resurrecting a Dell PowerEdge 2950 with dual 3GHz xeon and SAS drives. I'm trying to setup a workstation for data crunching CAD and Video rendering. I'd like to find out what the potential challenges would be with the PowerEdge 2950 and Win 7 or 8.

Solution
You should be fine with either Win 7 (Pro or Ultimate) or Win 8 (Pro). Generic drivers exist for all of the hardware on the Dell (even if Dell doesn't provide). You may just need to dig through the 'Net a bit to find them all. Be sure to use a 64-bit version as I assume you will be using more than 4GB of memory.

Good luck!

The Dell 2950 can be had with dual 3Gig CPU's and 16Gig RAM for less than $400 now. I may just get one to try my luck at getting Win7 or 8 running. If it works it would be quite a workstation. If not it would still make a good home server. Thanks.
