SLI scaling is great and offers almost twice the performance with some titles.
While two 580s in SLI are great (I've had this setup), if you get the GTX770, you always have the option to get another and have two 770s in SLI. Two 770s will most definitely give you better performance than two 580s.

me personally i would still rather have a single powerful card like a 780 on a good deal.

Its all about cost benefit ratio..... today....two 580s will significantly outperform a 770 and cost ya maybe $225-$275 versus $400 for the 770.
Two years from now, the 580s will still be better than the 770....but then ya can find another 770.
