I ordered an additional 7970 yesterday because the price was right, but I'm aware that I will be running my cards in 8x|8x instead of 16x|16x my question is what kind of hit am I going to take on performance?

I'm just curious, some people tell me the difference will be un-noticeable.

Can I ask what motherboard you are using?

even pcie 2 running at 8x should not be an issue at all.

MaximumPC just did a comparison with x8/x8 vs x16/x16 with high end GPUs and if I recall correctly it's only about a 5% penalty so still a good upgrade.

On PCIE-3 it will be small..... On PCIE-2 it is noticeable.

make sure you d/l the 13.8 Beta driver.... it fixes some of the problems w/ CF .... tho issues remain

That's really good news, even a 5% loss like some of you said wouldn't be so bad
