Hi All,
Thanks for looking in. I have to replace my Hard drive I am getting the failure error. Tried to use the recovery disc incase it was a glich. No help.
Tried a malwayre scan-nothing found. Bought a new drive today.

Now I am wondering about the O.S.?
The laptop did not come with a disc. (front loaded from BigBox) I did however make the 5 recovery discs at time of purchase. Will those work if I remove that old drive and pop in a new drive and then insert disc #1 at boot?
Or must I d.load this 8 hour D.load from my slow IP connect....?

I found this link http://techpp.com/2009/11/11/download-windows-7-iso-off...
This D.load is an ISO. When, and if I have to download it, then burn it to a disc, what format should I burn it as? So it will boot the computer.

I have also read about Cloning but know not of how to do it. The computer is still working only fatal error warnings ATM... Any suggestions?
Thanks for any direction on this.
Regards,
NC

If you created the recovery discs, and you replace the hard drive with an similar drive (some require exact size replacement only), it might install. It might work - you can try it and see what happens.

If you download an ISO - I usually create a bootable USB stick to load (it is many times faster than DVD/CD-ROM - especially with multiple discs).

Make sure it is the exact version you have a license for (i.e. Windows 7 Home Premium 32-Bit), if you don't match it exactly, your license will not work, and Microsoft won't give you a registration.

No I bought a WD Scorp Blk 7200 replacing a Toshib 5400

So you are not sure about the recovery discs? Yes same O.S -Home Prem 64
I guess I will Google a Bootable USB to figure that... Thank you

I went over there and it seems there are just links...Did I miss something? I have a link already, hence my question about burning the disc format

Thanks you guys for the link and the heads up....However I do not have the disc. So at this point I still need to download the O.S.
(I am guessing here) I followed the link. I was hoping to rip the OS from the old drive, park it on a USB. Replace the old Drive and then I would want to Boot from the USB. (How? Not sure) Since there is no O.S installed, after I install the new drive, I am guessing I would need to go into the BIOS and tell it to boot from the USB (did it once with my desktop build) a year ago! I think it was F10 while starting it?

After and IF I can get the computer to boot from the USB, I am unclear on then parking that OS on the USB, over to the new drive.
I know all this seems so simple to the bulk of you guys, but I am kinda swimming here in info....
I have a ultra uber slow internet connect and it takes 8 hours to download 3.3 gigs of the OS. And sometimes comes with missing or corrupt packets. Hence me wanting to rip from existing drive and with minimal downloads.

If any of you have the energy to post the steps to overcoming this challenge, it is greatly appreciated.
