Mouse being innacurate

I have or used to have a R.A.T 7 which worked just fine until not too long ago. I started to notice that I was having a harder time homing into the targets. For ex, I used to be able to snap the reticule for headshots rather easily, now I find myself relying on random luck to be able to land the reticule on the body for a bodyshot. I would have never noticed it if it hadn't been for this game called combat arms. It was there that I noticed that my reticule likes to jump randomly and many times I feel like I'm fighting friction just to be able to make the cursor go where I want it to go. It feels a lot like I was using a joystick to play fps games rather than a mouse.

So, I went on to buy a new mouse, the M7 Thor. I even bought a mat since I didn't have one. There is some improvement over my old mouse but the problem is still there. I tried talking to the Madcatz support but they besically asked me for the receipt to determine whether I was still under the warranty and I haven't heard from them since. It has been nearly a week since I submitted the ticket.

Anyways, I'm starting to think that the issue might not be the actual mouse since I'm getting similar problems with the new one. There is some improvement. The random jumps are less frequent and I seem to have a bit more control over the cursor. Then there is the friction, at times it feels like the mouse/cursor doesn't want to go in the direction I'm trying to make it go.

My DPI is currently set at 4000. On the old mouse I used to have it at around 3600. Increasing the dpi doesn't seem to help the problem but it does increase the randomness.

I have "enhance pointer precision" on btw ( which seems to reduce the randomness by a lot!). I have also tried switching usb ports but everything is still the same.

I'm not sure of what is going on -_-

Hope someone can help. Thanks.

do you lift the mouse off the mousing surface? both appear to be laser mice so do track when lifted.

what is your windows mouse speed set at? (say if you're also still at the lowered dpi) and game mouse speed and sensitivity.

does this happen in wondows + all games?

do you have a KNOWN working mouse? ie some cheap crap optical mouse you use on another pc which you know works? does this work on the pc or same issue?

No, but I do lift it whenever it fails to go where I want it to go.

The mouse speed on windows is at max. Current dpi is at 4000. But like I said before, I had my old one at around 3600 before it went bad.

Yeah, it happens in most games...Except for the ones where extreme accuracy is not necessary. In games like resident evil 6 I don't have a hard time aiming since I'm usually not looking down the sights or aiming strictly at the head. And yes, I have trouble clicking on the "X' when closing windows at times. Not always, the new mouse seems to be a bit more accurate than the old one. I never had any accuracy issues with the old mouse while it was in good shape though.

Well, I was thinking about trying these mice on other machines to see what happens. I'll do it sometime tomorrow.

i can tell you for a fact that i cant use a mouse at 4000 dpi, maximum mouse speed and then high mouse speed and sensitivity or i'd be all over the place.

i normally use 3 notches down from the top and whatever my deathadder resorts to with dpi when not having the drivers installed.

to each their own though.

try lowering dpi to something like 800 and taking mouse speeds down a few notches as well. any improvement?

Well, I'm not lowering the dpi anymore because it will be a bit too slow for my taste. I did go down a few notches on windows and it does feel a bit better. Either that did the trick or I'm getting used to the new mouse + pad. Time will tell I guess. Thanks for the help. I'll swing by again if the problem remains or becomes noticeable again,.

Hi
I dont know about your new mouse but I think your RAT 7 uses the same sensor as my ROCCAT Kone .I have had a similar problem that I cured by blowing out the laser and sensor with compressed air.It appears that high res mice are susceptible to dust on the sensor.
You could also try cleaning it with a cotton bud.

I have no clue of where I could get compressed air around here. I'll try the cotton deal and see what happens. I've already tried wiping the bottom with anti-static wipes but it didn't help. Thanks for the suggestion.
