Never had any issues with this card, always stayed perfectly around 75°C on full load. Motherboard died (M5a97) and got a new one, gigabyte ga-990xa-ud3, after installing I went into a battlefield 3 game and my pc sounded like a plane + my GPU was about 100°C

Specs:

AMD Phenom ii x4 960T (3.0Ghz)
ASUS HD 6850 Direct CU OC
Stock processor cooling
600W PSU
8GB Ram Kingston Hyperx Genesis (2x4GB) 1600Mhz

Solution
Remove the cooler on the GPU clean the heatsink and fan throughly and add a fresh coat of thermal paste on to the GPU then reseat the cooler onto the card. This should fix your problem.

Just took apart my GPU, cleaned the heatsink, fans and applied a fresh coat of thermal paste. Card temperature on 90% activity doesn't reach beyond 65°C.

Thanks!
