I am looking to upgrade my current system. I run on air cooling, it's a dark knight xigmatek fan so I plan to keep this for the new build. My Question is are there any suggestions for me that could save me money from my current plan on purchasing the SABERTOOTH 990FX/GEN3 R2.0.

Overclocking is what I will be doing and I want to push it as far as I can with my air cooled setup. is this board too overkill for air only OC'ing?

current specs:-
955BE phenom x4 @ 4.0ghz stock volt
7970 Radeon
G54 gigabyte mobo
16gb 1600 Ballistix

Potential Upgrade to :-
FX8350
SABERTOOTH 990FX/GEN3 R2.0

Power phases are a marketing scam mostly

I have an Asrock 970 Extreme4 with a puny 4+1 power phases and have no problem at all hitting 4.9 GHz with my FX 6300 under a Scythe Ninja cooler .
IMO the cooling on the VRM's is the issue not the power phases which will give you tiny improvements at best

That is why I thought I would ask the question that, due to my cooler (that I really don't want to spend more money to upgrade) is there a better option than the one above stated.

I was looking at the 990FX extreme3 and recieved mixed reviews on whether or not I should get that board when considering overclocking
