Thanks for reading, I just upgraded from a dual core to a quad core processor. all 4 cores show in windows 7 device manager, but only 2 show in task manager, resource monitor, CPUID, etc.

How can i fix this?

Thanks :)

If device manager is seeing 4 then obviously it's not disabled in the BIOS but rather in Windows:-

Type "msconfig" under Start Run... box. Then click "Boot" then "Advanced options" and check number of processors there.

Edit : PS: When you said you upgraded from 2 cores to 4 cores, presumably you upgraded from an 1156/1155 Clarkdale / Sandy / Ivy i3 -> 1150 Haswell i5? If so, did you reinstall windows? And if not, did you uninstall all previous windows chipset drivers, etc, before putting the new board in? Changing motherboard is the one...

Thank you so much, previously I had done this selecting 2 since thats what I had on my 1155 Sandy.
Type "msconfig" under Start Run... box. Then click "Boot" then "Advanced options" and check number of processors there.

I unchecked the processors then rebooted, on my reboot 4 became available, so I selected 4 and again rebooted.

It seems that if you specify, then upgrade, windows 7 will keep what you selected previously.

You guys rock!

Need more info pls... All that is fine for me but when i see the detailed performance information, (the one via windows performance index) it shows - Number of Processors - 2.
Bios and task manager show 4.
