Need help in connecting through LAN

hello,i am new here and this is my first post. i need help in connecting some pc`s i want to play some games by creating a LAN network i was able to connect my desktop with my laptop using a dual faced crossover Ethernet cable and creating a local area network and it worked but i want to know that i have a desktop Ethernet switch and if i purchase extra crossover cables and connect them with the switch and other end to a pc will they be able to work?

simply i want to connect 4 or 5 pc`s and play games over the lan network can i connect them using a desktop ethernet switch and will it work?thank you and please reply

Yes it will work if you manually assign. Its automatic with a router so it is easier to manage

You don't want cross over cables for connecting to a switch, they are for connecting 2 computers together. All computers will have to be assigned IP addresses manually unless you are connecting the switch to a router.

.i manually assigned ip addresses in both the pc`s wont it work for more by using a switch?in no please tell any other way of connecting the pc`s please reply
