I need help as my external hard drive with precious and valuable data is not mounting properly on my computer. I do see it on My Desktop but the icon was non-clickable, even if it was, it will ask to format my drive. I used to use chkdsk to mount it back but now, it's not working at all. I did a chkdsk /r and chkdsk /f. It would keep failing during 77% progress. Are there any other possible ways to recover my hard drive?

You used to use chkdsk? So you did know it is dying and didn't create a backup? Maybe this will help to get at least some data form it: http://www.piriform.com/recuva

It wasn't dying at all but I was able to use chkdsk to mount it then somehow I have decided to use chkdsk to repair the sectors incase anything happen again. Then that's why I couldn't get back in or access the drive.
