hi all

like facebook, microsoft ... etc
although they are not an ISP but their connection to the internet is massive ?
so does an ISP provide this service for them ? or they have their own connection to the internet ?

Solution
The Internet is a connection of networked computers worldwide - all an ISP does is sell the service that allows you to connect to the network at various speeds - the top companies like you mention have their own presence on the backbone of the network but still pay a fee to an ISP for service and to use their leased equipment

Companies of that size, wouldn't surprise me if they had their own Optic Fibre clusters running directly from their major server sites to their ISP's nearest hub.
Of course it is entirely possible that a company that large would act as their own ISP. Google has definitely gotten in on it.

I'm not an expert at networking, so I may be wrong. But to my knowledge there is only one kind of Optic Fibre cable and its maximum length will be dictated by how many boosters you can lay down.
If your looking at laying cable over the kinds of distances your asking, you really should be asking a networking professional, not us.
