PSU for GTX 670 (SLI in future)

Want the option of SLI'ing two 670's in the future. Browsing these forums, there are people saying 600W is enough, others saying you need at least 800W! Thinking Corsair TX750 V2 Enthusiast with:

- i5-3570K
- Gigabyte GTX 670 2GB
- ASRock Z77 Extreme4
- Corsair Vengeance 8GB
- Samsung 840 Series 250GB SSD

But I want to know, is a cheaper power supply (which is just as reliable and sufficient for my potential needs) possible? If so, any recommendations?

Or, if that PSU is terrible let me know...

  2. http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-670/specifications

    Thermal and Power Specs:

    97 C - Maximum GPU Temperature (in C)
    170 W - Maximum Graphics Card Power (W)
    500 W - Minimum System Power Requirement (W)5
Two 6-pin - Supplementary Power Connectors

    500 + 170 for SLI says nvidia

Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation:

GeForce GTX 670 - On your average system the card requires you to have a 550 Watt power supply unit.
GeForce GTX 670 SLI - On your average system the cards require you to have a 750 Watt power supply unit as minimum.

If you are going to overclock GPU or processor, then we do recommend you purchase something with some more stamina.

So TX750 / XFX Core Edition 750 or equivalent for stock box / HX850 / Seasonic X-850 or equivalent if overclocking CPU / GPU
  3. Thanks for the replies. Hmmm. Thinking of screwing future-proofing so requirements have changed a little...

Just a single GTX 670, no overclocking. Cheapest recommended power supply for that?

  5. Went for XFX ProSeries 750W 80 PLUS Gold Certified in the end. Should be good for future proofing myself for when I replace the single GPU...

    Thanks
