I am looking for suggestions about how to deal with an issue with my disk drive.

I have a Windows 7, home premium, service pack 1, system with a Hitachi disk HDS721064.

For the past several weeks, Windows has been logging an 'event 55' which says 'The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume HP.' I run chkdsk and generally see another 'event 55' being logged within the next day. The Microsoft website which the event viewer takes me to is not particularly helpful.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of issue or any suggestions?

Thank you.

use something to check the smart status of your drive and check for reallocated sectors.
If you do not have any then have you fully updated your installation of Win7. It contained a fix for this issue which I beleive is rolled into sp1.

Smart status shows for Reallocated Sectors Count: Current 100, Worst 100, Threshold 5.

Smart also shows drive health status as 'good'.

I have gone back and checked my update history and do not see any updates that failed and were not then successfully installed.
