I bet everyone says either the i5 3570 or 4670. And a few will tell you to overclock and get the 3570k or 4670k.
is there a noticeable difference between 3570 and 4670?
Platinum Era :
i5 3570k, 4670k and the FX-8350 would be great choices.
I would say go with the 4670k.
getting a 4670k when im not overclocking would be a waste no?
The main difference is the integrated GPU. The 3570 has an HD 2500 and the 4670 uses a HD 4600 which is much better. But you are getting a 780 so it doesn't really matter. The 4670 is slightly faster and uses less power. Haswell (4670) has a better voltage regulation system which is part of the CPU. But, really, anything the Haswell 4670 can do, the Ivy Bridge 3570 can do equally as well. The only time you will notice a difference is if you run a benchmark. As for either CPU with a 780, they both have PCI-e 3.0 and will pretty much be the same combined with the 780, although the newer Intel H87 boards that have Virtu MVP do not include the software for free anymore. Older H77 boards did. At least when I got a Z77 it was free. Virtu MVP combines the iGPU with the 780 to give you better performance.
Yes, if you do not plan on overclocking, any unlocked ("k") processor is a complete waste. So is a Z77 or Z87 motherboard. Just get the H-series. It is the same as the Z-series but without overclocking and cheaper (if both are ATX or both are mini-ATX, etc.). The CPU will still boost, but it is locked out from going any higher.
