With new games coming out like BF4, I want to upgrade my video card since it is a bit old. I built my system about 3.5 years ago so the video card is showing its age. I have made a few upgrades(memory, ssd, cpu cooler), but the mobo, cpu, and gpu remain the same.

Current System:
GPU: XFX Radeon 5850
MB: Asus M4A89GTD-PRO/USB3(crossfire support)
CPU: AMD Phenom XII 955 BE
PS: 750w antec

I was thinking about going with a 7950/760 or 7970. I'm not sure I would see much of a difference with the 7970 though. I game on 1080p resolution.
Or should I just wait to see if prices drop more?

It might be time to upgrade your cpu/mobo. I would go with 7950/760, whichever is cheaper at the time you want to buy. You should probably wait until BF4 does come out then waiting for prices to drop further doesn't matter much because you'll be enjoying the game, and I doubt price will go any lower to be worth the wait imo.
770 > 7970 > 760 > 7950

I am trying to figure out the same thing. Which to buy 7950 or 760? I see the chart the prior guy posted but on evey single benchmark, it has 7950 topping 760. Someone said to me, FPS isnt everything, but what does that mean? Isnt what we see in frames per second what matters? I game and do media center stuff. I stream videos and watch movies as much as game. Which is better, better for me and if 7950, whats the best 7950 to buy?

I hesitate to answer your post because of the "better for me" part. I can't honestly tell you, but from my perspective as a person who enjoys playing graphic-intensive games (which should be the deciding point for video card choice) I would go with the 7950 for the memory, overclock-friendliness. With fixes in beta for crossfire solutions, this is a big plus in my book when it comes to upgrading to this setup.

Go with 760 if you want physx, sacrificing a little if any fps. This is what that person was probably referring to when he/she said it's not about fps bc we're talking physx on/off..physx was nice in Arkham and Borderlands 2. FPS always matters. Look at benchmarks: all FPS centric.

Some games are optimized for Green and the Red. Both prices are strategically positioned (MSRP). Wait for a sale if you can. With a new wave of AMD game consoles coming in, I might be inclined to go with Red camp but it your choice. Grab the card with the most markdown, look at the benchmarks again, and balance price/performance on your own. Benchmarks provide a chart for this but does not consider discounts to MSRP. If price didn't matter to me or for anyone, we would all get Titans and 7990s but it does much like FPS, driver support, etc.

Short answer: I would go with 7950. My opinion.

Best 7950 to buy?
I have no brand loyalty, but if I had to choose based on experience MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte, and Sapphire are good choices. I'm not going bash any manufacturer's cooling solution.

Short answer: Go for the cheaper card from any reliable company.
