Do I need a little speaker for the POST beeps? Silly question, I know, but I'm doing this for the first time. If one is needed, where does it go? Does it just hang out in the case or is there a mount spot or what? Thanks :)

First off, it's not necessary. It helps if you need troubleshooting, but if your system boots and allows you to install the OS, you're good to go. The motherboard speaker is really nothing more that the motherboard connector, two wires, and a tiny speaker attached. The wires have the tensile strength to keep the speaker from touching any other components and causing a short.

Do you need it? Only if you're having issues where troubleshooting the motherboard may help.
Where does it go? There's usually a two pin port somewhere on the board that it plugs into.
It does not hang outside of the case. The speaker wiring is normally no longer than two or three inches.

Thanks for the answer, I know it was a silly question. I don't need it at the moment, but was thinking of going ahead and putting one in just in case. I'm a preparer I guess :)

Not a silly question at all. Anything that advances knowledge should not be considered, "silly". As for the speaker, that's just my opinion. There are others in this forum who would not consider a system build without attaching the motherboard speaker and I won't gainsay anything against that practice. It just happens to not be mine. There's certainly no harm in attaching it.
