I was trying to scan disk for errors on the C: drive (SSD drive 150gb where windows is installed) and then went to the 2 TB drive (the D: drive ) and right clicked properties and a message popped up saying:

" Do you want to dismount volume first? Note: All opened handles to this volume will become invalid. "

I clicked "Force a dismount" by mistake and cancelled after it ran for a split sec. Now i can't access my D: drive

Will it the D: drive come back again to its normal state with time or i have to do some specific procedures to re-mount it back and retain all my files on the D: 2 TB drive?

Solution
for future reference you could have gone into disk management (run diskmgmt.msc) and rt clicked the inactive drive and then selected "Activate".
