Hi, in my room I have something that looks like a small wall socket and it says BT on a piece of plastic that is screwed over the socket. It is rectangular and has a screw in the middle. I would like to plug in a modem because the internet in my room is awful and we have BT internet that isn't being used. Thanks for reading:D
Here are some pictures, I can't get them to work apart from as links :)

It's certainly phone-related but it looks like a junction box rather than a socket. Do you have a working BT phone line with ADSL active on it? You would normally want to plug the modem into the master socket - there must be one somewhere, not just a junction box, otherwise your phones won't ring (the master socket separates the ring signal from the two wires that come in from BT and puts it onto a third wire).

(As an aside, I'd recommend swapping the standard BT faceplate on the master socket for an ADSL faceplate with an integrated DSL filter - you'll get better performance and won't need microfilters on any extension sockets. My connection speed went up from 1.1 to 3.9 Mbps when I switched from discrete microfilters to a central filter. You can get them from DSLNation.co.uk.)

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!
