I just bought a new ASUS S46CB-WX058H using Windows 8 system (64 bit). On the 3rd day, I restarted the computer after updates done automatically by Windows. Near the end of the updates, the font suddenly changed to Wingdings. After restarting, everything was in Wingdings including date and time. I tried to log in to my local account using the on-screen keyboard. It accepted my password but it could not load Windows normally. Nothing appeared on the desktop, just a black screen with an empty task bar at the bottom. I can see and move the mouse but neither left-click nor right-click shows any response. I am also unable to shut down unless I long-press the power button. Is there any way that I can reformat my laptop? I have tried both F8 or F9 during reboot but there was no response. Is there any other methods that I can try? Thanks

Solution
Try System Refresh/Restore or if that does not work insert the windows 8 DVD/bootable anything and Then try repair the system.

A shortcut that you can use to restart and boot directly into the Advanced Startup options menu is to use the shutdown /r /o /t 0 command from the Run prompt.

kushvyas, I couldn't try the shortcut you mentioned cos I couldn't even get the Run prompt to work. I was hoping it wouldn't get to that stage but I guess I'm left with no choice but rma. Thanks alot both for the help though!
