Hey guys,
I'm currently looking to invest into a new CPU (my current one is outdated) I have been looking for a cheap CPU, which still performs well and I have found the AMD Athlon II X4 640. I have checked with my motherboard and it seems to be compatible.

My question is...
Are there any better CPUs out there that will go for the same/similar price. (I found the Athlon II for £54, which seems to be a great deal for a quad 3.0 Ghz CPU)

Motherboard Compatibility list is here : ( http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/list.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=m2n68-am%20se2&p=1 )

Apparently that CPU isn't supported by the CPU, but according to how it sounds it's pretty much the same as the Athlon, correct?

(sorry for the late reply)

I see, but according to a quick price scan the lowest I'm seeing the Phenom new is over £84. so it's a £30 difference for what appears to be (from CPU-World) a 10/20% increase in performance at the most.
