I have two hard drives on my PC.Unfortunately, one of them doesn't work anymore. The other one, which is 250gb (and the OS is on it as well) survived. My question is, how long do you think I can use the PC with only that hard drive on it.For me 250 gb seems enough, if I don't fill unnecessary space. What do you think? Thanks.

Today's hard drives are larger which suggests that your drive may be very old.
If it has the SMART capability, you can display statistics about errors and usage.
If it does not, I suggest you plan on replacing it.

I suggest this may be an opportune time to convert it to a SSD.
A SSD will absolutely transform the performance of your pc.
Look for a 240gb Samsung EVO.
You can download a copy of their magician utility which can clone your 250gb drive to their SSD.

The question of how long is unanswerable. It depends on you and what you like to store on the HD. Windows 7/64 bit takes about 20gig. If you save pictures, songs and other media you may find the drive filling fast. What was on the failed drive, that might give you some more information as to your capacity needs. Perhaps more important to you is the question of the existing drives health. Did you get both drives at the same time? Same brands? You said survived. What happened, was there and event that contributed to the other drive failure?

It just started to make a strange scratch noise and I had to disconnect the cables since it slowed down my PC.I gave the PC to a service and they told me that all the problems (my other problem was that my PC freezed every time I turned it on and I had to reset it a few time before it works) came from the power supply, because it was old.I got it changed and I still haven't tried my PC since then. But they told me that the problem with the hard drive came from the power supply (because it was old and not enough strong).

A old or cheap psu can cause all sorts of problems. But... I am doubtful that noise from a hard drive would be caused by the psu. A hard drive requires minimal power.
I would first go ahead and try your pc with the new psu and see of your problems are fixed. I think it unlikely that added damage is imminent.
You need to back up ASAP any data you have that is irreplaceable.

Who knows.
The hard drive manufacturer will have some diagnostics that you can run which might tell you something about the health of the drive.
If you have no issues normally, go ahead and keep using it until you do.
Hard drives may advertise 500,000 hours mean time to failure. That is 50 years.
If a drive has been working well, it is likely to last a long time. But things do break.
So long as you are protected, and can afford some down time, do not worry too much.
If it breaks, buy another and restore from your backup.

How long your HDD will last is unknown. Here is what I would do. Buy a drive like this for $60 and install (if you need help, you can watch a video on youtube like this) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKnbazLsM7g.

Seagate Barracuda ST500DM002 500GB.

This will double your current drive capacity and give you a new drive. You should copy all your data (files, pictures and songs, etc) you want to keep on DVDs or a flash drive before doing this.

I am assuming you have a Dell or HP so you should have a restore CD that came with your build. You can use this to reinstall Windows after you install the new drive. If you dont have this CD get it before you move forward.
