Hello,

I have a shed that is between 70-80 feet away from my house that I would like to have my WIFI extend to. Does anyone have any idea what type of repeater I can buy or whether or not there is a better wireless router that I could purchase? This is an area where my expertise is very limited.

How much bandwidth do you want out there -- streaming video or just email/Internet?

A repeater will be your last option, as you need a good quality signal to repeat locally out there.

The first best thing would be to run an outdoor rated CAT5e cable in a trench (best inside some PVC to protect it from future digging (by people, dogs, and other critters). Then you can set up an access point out there at the end of the cable run. You can use an inexpensive router in an AP mode for that.

If that is not possible, at that distance and through construction (hopefully not a metal shed--is it?) and depending on your budget, wireless AC would work well. A pair of ASUS RT-AC66U, one as your main router and the second in the shed in media bridge mode would work very well if the shed is not metal.

That is a long distance for wireless N, although you could use a directional antenna off your current router that is aimed at the shed and have a router in client bridge mode out there to receive.

Also, what gear do you already have, what router and what do you want to put in the shed that needs a connection?
