so i just installed windows 7 home premium oem and it says at the bottom right corner of the desktop: windows copy not genuine. its oem, and i havent connected to the internet yet after building the pc so i assume that the activation will get rid of it. should i be worried?

No you should not be worried connecting to the internet. They will not get rid of anything.

Click on the banner that says windows not genuine.
It will say something like activate windows now, let it try to. When it can't connect to the internet it will give you the option to call microsoft to activate windows, do that and follow the instructions.
That should fix it.

correct me if im wrong but you can only activate windows oem (or maybe even retail) if youre online right?(or on the phone) because i tried to enter the product key during set up and it said that it was invalid. is that bad? will it work when im online? and yes im sure i entered the product key properly.

The last time I had to activate Windows 7 Home Premium, I got the message out of the blue that it was not a valid copy. I used a combination of online and my cell phone to get it reactivated and my copy is Retail. There is a lot of long numbers traded back and forth. If you do it by phone and are not sitting at the computer, it is pretty near impossible to do.

Every licence key is logged, and authenticated via online means, or by a phone call to MS windows support.
If you are not connected to the internet then it cannot complete the process of validating the key of your windows copy for the machine it is running on.
It also checks to see that the specs of the system/ hardware inside match with the key.
Once done that message should go away.
