Is I possible to use the USB720 modem through a router to connect a desk top, lap top and tablet. the goal is to use the one USB720 internet interface to connect all these devices in a home network. What would be the best router to use and how would one set the network up?

Maybe you are going to have to very carefully read compatibility lists. It sometime even depends who the carrier is.
Both dlink and linksys sell routers designed to use broadband modems. The best bet tends to be a company called cradlepoint. They used to be the only option for quite some time. The interfaces are much more standard than they used to be but some carriers intentionally put things in to prevent you from using anyones router but ones they sell.
