I cannot get my second hard drive to operate

I just built a desktop and have used a boot drive for the first week. But now when I am trying to get my western digital hard drive to come up in my disk drives section it doesn't work. I know its connected because it appears in the properties section but I cannot access it. So if someone ould give me a link to a tutorial or tell me how to get it to work that would be great!

If you placed the drive in as a second drive it needs to be formatted for windows to see it.

In windows 7 click on the start button.
In the search box type: DISK MAN

Click on create partitions, or format disks.
Once loaded you should see two drives.

Right click on the new drive and select format from the drop down list.
The drive will then show up in windows my computer once formatted.
