These are my specs:

GPU: Intel G45/G43 Express Chipset
Processor: Intel Celeron 450 @ 2.2GHz

Both of them are outdated and I'm looking to replace only one of them so I can play video games on a low medium kind of setting. I only got around 10 frames for a game today on minimum :pfff:

And I have a monitor display of 1920x1080 if that helps.

I have $50 to spend on a GPU or CPU. Its not a large budget but I'll take any upgrade over nothing. So any suggestions?

First of all, your CPU's socket type is LGA 775. This is a very old socket type (first released 9 years ago), and is incompatible with modern day processors. This leaves you with 2 choices: Either buy an outdated processor, or buy a new motherboard and CPU.

Assuming that you are playing modern games, I would say that both your CPU and video card are so old that it really doesn't matter which you upgrade - the other will have such a substantial bottleneck that you will most likely NOT see huge gains in terms of performance.

Here is what I would do: I would save my money ($110), and buy a new motherboard and CPU. I would buy an AMD FM1 motherboard, and an AMD APU. An APU is a CPU and video card combined.

For my APU, I would buy this...
If you aren't looking for ground breaking performance, the AMD APU's do pretty well, CPU/GPU combined so you don't have to worry about spending a tonne of cash, but $50 isn't going to get you anything at all, you could get a 6670 for that much but your CPU is far, far too slow for gaming.

With this setup, you will be able to play modern games such as Skyrim and Diablo 3 at 30+ FPS. It can be had for $110 with a mail in rebate at Newegg.

Would I need to change/buy any other component? I hear that the power supply is sometimes important so would I need to buy a new one? Other than that, I think I'm going with this set up. Also, are there any tutorials I can use? There must be some lying about the web...
