Prerequisite: This is my very first build and I've been compiling a list of the parts that I want for a little while now, if you are interested here they are:

So, I've been trying to decide on a video card for a while because my PC tis mainly going to be used for gaming. In my research I've decided to go with the EVGA GTX 780 ACX, but I'm increasingly interested in the ASUS GTX 780 Direct CU II. I've seen comparisons of these two cards along with the MSI and Gigabyte versions and the ASUS always comes in last at it's stock frequency. But, when overclocked, the card quickly jumps ahead of the pack by about 3 frames per second (which i know doesn't make MUCH of a difference). Would this be a reason to buy it rather than the first place in most tests at stock frequency (that still has the warranty), the EVGA solution?

I won't be getting into much CPU overclocking, maybe 4.2 or 4.3 ghz, but I feel as if I'll be needing to do a little more to get the GPU to run at close to the performance rates that I see in reviews. Are you playing the same lottery with GPUs as you are with CPUs and your just lucky if you get a good overclocking GPU? Is it worth voiding your warranty over the extra performance and future performance with updated drivers and such? Lastly, does anyone have any experience with this GPU before and after overclocking? I would love to hear your results in some games/benchmarks.

Thanks so much for reading, I hope to hear from you soon!

They are about equal, one will be quieter/hotter and the other louder/cooler depending on if you get an Asus one with the new BIOS that reduces fan speeds a bit, both have good warranty programs and such so just pick on either price or what fits the look of your build.
You are playing the lottery no matter what brand you go with, prioritize cooler, you can be certain of how quiet/cool it will run, buy you can never buy with certainty when considering overclocks. The Asus cooler is very good, I'd certainly go with that over one with an inferior cooler that is overclocking oriented, like the Lightning.

The EVGA cooler seems to be first or second in most cases, would you buy it over the ASUS cooler?

Ok, well microcenter where I live, has the EVGA in stock currently so I'll probably go with it.
