Most 7.1 virtual gaming headsets that i have come across work like this:
They support either "Dolby Headphone" or "Dolby Pro Logic IIx" technologies. Both of which take as input either stereo or 5.1 and up-convert it into 7.1.
Question 1 : These work with stereo or 5.1 as input, what if the input is 7.1 ? Then what happens ? How does the headset virtualize a 7.1 input ?
Question 2 : On Dolby's Website it is mentioned that with the "Dolby Headphone" Technology enabled, you can hear the sound as if you are sitting in a room with 5 Speakers around you : What does this mean ? I mean Dolby.com also says that the signal is up-converted into 7.1 ... so there should be more than just 5 speakers... so what is happening here ?
