Well I am trying to start up Let's plays on my YouTube channel. I've always used Fraps for my other videos but I plan on having 30 minute recordings and from my own experience with Fraps I know that 30 minutes will be a fracking huge filesize.

So I figured I would try this Mirillis Action! that everyone is talking about and honestly its great EXCEPT for one thing.. If your game crashes or closes unexpectedly before you stop your recording that video you just spent 30 minutes recording is useless because its now corrupt... Now this only happens with AVI not MP4 But you can only record in 720p or lower with MP4 using action unless you have a Intel CPU with Intel Quick Sync..

Now I also Tried Dxtory with every recommended setting and while the video was great it dropped my frames in my heavily modded game from 30 fps to 14 fps which I can't have..I've tried other codecs and Ive set the threads to 8 and also 4 and everything else I could find about it on google but still it atleast halves my fps.

Fraps I get no lose of fps and the video quality is great but the file size is huge and it really doesn't have ANY features.. In the other two programs I could record my game audio and mic audio on separate tracks just incase one was to loud I could adjust it post recording. This isn't really a huge deal to me as long as I can get the audio balance between my voice and game sounds correct and it stays that way because messing with an extra audio track was a pain anyways since in premiere pro Cs6 you can't import an avi with more then 1 audio track..

And thats all I've tried so far..

Now I am using a totally separate 2Tb drive to store my recordings on so file size isn't a "huge" deal but at the same time I'm a hoarder when it comes to files and recordings so smaller files are a plus if I don't have to sacrifice quality.

Also I like my original files to be high quality so when I edit and export them in Premiere I don't loose much. The game I am playing I modded the crap out of it to look amazing so I want good video quality..

Is there any programs besides these 3 I mentioned that you guys & gals think I should look into? Or do you think I should just use fraps because at this point its looking like Fraps.. ( which is a shame because I really liked Mirillis Action! but my game crashes once in a while and I can't take loosing 30 minutes of video and gameplay and having to redo it all the time)

Thanks,
Jeff

You can always get a program to compress your video and make the file size smaller. Also there is another recording program out there called bandicam you can give that a try (Bandicam compresses while you record).
