hi guys,

i recently upgrade my pc to:
asrock 990fx extreme3
amd fx8320 3.5ghz
kingston beast KHX16C9T3K2/8X 1600mhz
SAMSUNG 840 120Gb SSD
Club 3d radeon HD7850 Royalking 2gb 256bit
Antec kuhler 920
and im using 8x120mm fans for airflow

and these older hardware i put inside also
coolermaster gx750w psu
seagate st3500418as=500gb
seagate st950032 5as=500gb
wdc wd64 00AAKS-65A7B2=640gb
corsair vengence CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8 2x4gb

So when i leave in everything auto in the bios my system runs fine,but i want to run my system at 4.2gz

so on manual i put my
FsB=240
Multiplier=17.5
Ht link runs at 10x240=2400mhz (2600 is max)

northbride runs at 9x240=2160mhz(2200mhz is max)

my memory is not really compatible with my mobo (i know) cause amd uses jedec and both my ram can use the xmp profile but i cant due to my mobe being an amd(learned that just recently)

so when i put my settings fsb and so my mobo auto sets my ram at ddr960 which gives me a dram freq of 480mhz and fsb:dram=1:2

my voltage for my cpu is set to 1.375(cpuz never showe more then 1.368... before i had it set to 1.425
the cpu northbridge at 1.175v

and all the rest is set to auto
llc is auto

almost all amd powersavers are enabled except enhanced state and the turbo core unlocker

so i save these settings and mobo shuts down and after restart it says it has started up couple a times(not true) and i need to change my settings...but in stead i just save again,pc restarts again and goes straight to windows.

not having problems restart after restart only when i power my pc down and start it up again i get that message again. now cause not having memory from the supported list i checked both, single,dual mode and every time i get the same message when starting after complete shutdown...

http://valid.canardpc.com/0z1123 (cpuz validation link)

my bios is L1.52b=beta one for more memory compatibility

SO what changes do i need to make to run my system at 4.2ghz without ever seeing that message again???

I don't understand how you have this combination working because on the asrock website it says the asrock 990fx extreme3 can only support upto the fx 8100, are they wrong or something? Need to know as debating on whether to get this cpu and motherboard or fx 6350....

*facepalm* the extreme 3 has 4+1 phases. You should have gotten a mobo with a 8+2 phase design as this will give you better overclocking. the 8 core amd cpus need a lot of power at stock speed (put a lot of stress on the phases). you could Maybe get 4.2 if you're lucky on that phase design. looking at the board it doesn't have very good FET cooling. i got my fx 6300 to 4.7 ghz on the saber tooth 990fx r.2, oh and did i mention it was on a hyper 212 evo, i was getting 55c max with prime 95 but then again i do live in Norway.:) GL

It was mentioned on a couple of occasions now that in order to get the Extreme3 working with anything more demanding than FX8100 one needs to flash its BIOS and update it to version 1.7 at least.
