Hi! I have a Samsung SyncMaster 226BW

When I turn on my laptop (plugged into my monitor) the laptop screen starts booting up windows and then when the login screen should pop up on my monitor, the screen is completly black. It makes a really high frequency sound when the on/off button flashes and the screen goes from a dark but luminous grey to black. I found a solution that requires me to turn on and off the monitor while pressing the DVI connector and the power into the screen and eventually it will turn on while flickering at about 10 FPS (flickers per second
). Can someone explain this to me?
