SLI Not Working (Code 43)

Hi Folks,
I've just installed a new GTX 680.
I have one MSI Lightning 680.
The other is a MSI Twin Frozr (could only get second hand Lightnings, and twin frozr funnily enough brand new was only $50 more).

I've installed the SLI bridges (tried both slots, different bridges).
Read the FAQ (on SLI).
Followed this guide: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc725873 to fix the issue.
Updated BIOS (using @BIOS, F9 Version). F10 apparently isn't listed. No idea why.
And uninstalled then installed NVIDIA drivers - twice (after reboots in between). Also performed clean installation of said drivers.
Resated graphics cards.

System specs:
PSU: Silverstone 750Watt
Mobo: Gigabyte Z68X UD4-B3 Rev 1.0
GPU(s): One MSI Geforce GTX 680 Lightning II (2GB)
One MSI Geforce GTX 680 Twin Frozr (2GB)
RAM: 1600MHz Corsair 4GB Stick x 4
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit (latest SP etc etc)

Basically, the error I'm getting is in device manager.
It says: Code 43: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems.
NVIDIA control panel also I can't turn SLI on. But I imagine it has something to do with Windows reporting code 43.

So I've basically exhausted all ideas, and I was hoping someone could help me.

Thanks in advance!

Solution
A code 43 in Device manager could mean a real hardware problem. Have you tried the card that is getting the error as a single primary card to see if it still gives you an error code? If not I would pull both cards and try it as a single card in the first PCI-E slot just to rule out a real hardware error with that card.

Hi bryonhowley, thanks for your response.
It seems the PCI-E connectors were not properly seated. However I could still connect a display and have it show up on the graphics card...
Code 43 has since been rectified by just running that graphics card, and then putting the other one back in and connecting the bridges etc.

Anyway, I'm not able to enable SLI in the control panel unless I do one of the following:
Maximize 3D performance - I have no 3D capable monitor. I run 3 monitors, 2 1920x1200 monitors and a 1600x1200. It will disable all but one of them.
Span displays with surround - It gets rid of one of my 1920x1200 monitors, but keeps the other two. Which is strange.

As seen here in the pictures:

It initially told me to move the Samsung display to the second graphics card.
When it says replace, does it mean replace as in go buy a new monitor?
Or does it simply mean move a different monitor to that card?

Unfortunately, it's the only two options which lets me enable SLI.

Thanks for your response. I derped!

No luck.
Even tried disconnecting the single 1600x1200 monitor and using the 1920x1200's. Unfortunately it doesn't work.
Does this mean I basically can't use SLI unless I get another 1920x1200 monitor?

What's weird is it's only the Samsung that isn't playing nicely...
I've contacted NVIDIA to see if I can get SLI working without doing surround/3d enhancement. If not it looks like I'll have to buy a monitor to get SLI going.
Unless anyone has any alternative ideas to get SLI working?

Thanks for your help thus far.
