windows 8 won't let me install software from web browsers

I'm trying to install a printer on my mothers new tablet that has windows eight but when I try to download the printer software online (through internet explorer) a thing from windows comes up and says "this app can't download" and to check for apps in their store. I've noticed that this happens when I try to download other things through internet explorer browser such as Google chrome. I've looked in both the Browser settings and system settings but couldn't find anything to fix the problem. Any suggestions?

  1. I'm guessing that you're running Windows RT? That sounds somewhat like it's written for x86, but the ARM chip can't handle it.

Yes. You're mom's tablet can only run RT apps/drivers, make sure your downloads are for the correct platform.
