Hi there,

I have ordered online the MSI GTX 770 Gaming Edition that, compared to the reference 770, requires 2 8-pin connectors.

As of now, I only have 2 6-pin connectors and one 8-pin(6+2) connector for pci-e.

My question is, is it totally safe to use the included 6 to 8-pin adapter that comes in the package, for one of the power connectors(using my 6+2-pin connector and using the other 6 with the adapter). I don't plan on overclocking more the card now, maybe in the future but it wouldn't be hardcore overclock.

I'm wondering if that adapter may reduce the life of my device, or if there is a storm, any chance that my card gets a shortcut cause of this 6 to 8 pin adapter?

I'm using a 720W Enermax Infiniti power supply which is certified SLI/Crossfire. Model number EIN720AWT. I should be able to plug-in another 8-pin pci-e cable to it but since I think I don't have any with me and I'm not used to play much with what's connected inside my computer, I would only use the 6 to 8pin adapter if that's really fine.

Thank you very much for your expert help! :)

The MSI GTX 770 TwinFrozr Gaming card doesn't consume any more power than the NVIDIA Reference Design GeForce GTX 770 Card that uses one 6-pin and one 8-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

There should be no problem using the 6-pin to 8-pin PCIe adapter cable.

In fact I only said it was SLI-certified but for now I only plan on using it on a single GTX 770. My questioning is all about the fact that my power supply only shipped with one 6+2 pin and another 6-pin, and the card uses 2 8-pin connectors. Is the 6 to 8 pin adapter included with the graphics card reliable enough to use it without any fear of short-circuiting my card or whatsoever?

Use the Adapter. GTX 770 is rated for 230w. You'll get 150w from the 8 pin, 75w from the slot + another 75w from the 6-pin via the adapter. this will be sufficient for standard operation of the card. The reason yours is equipped with 2x 8-pin connectors is to facilitate the extra power requirements of overclocking - MSI use this overclocking potential as a selling point for their lightning edition cards.
