I thing 3-4 gb of ram would help, i always have >20% cpu and <600 MB memory usage. Is it possible to upgrade the ram in this laptop? There are x2 240 pin slots, easy access.

I have heard of people putting up to 8 ram in a dell vostro 1000, i know there are different versions but I am curious as to whether mine can upgrade ram. In the manual it says only 2 gb but that is with windows vista home basic.

Specs are:
amd 64 x2 dual core tk-53(1.7 ghz)
1 gb ram(894 MB usable)
32-bit OS - Windows 7 Ultimate SP1
ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 256MB HyperMemory - 256.0 MB

I'm not sure if there would be compatibilty issues with mobo, but i saw something about it that only ddr2 667 mhz works in it.

The 2GB RAM limit on your Vostro is imposed by the hardware, regardless of the Windows version.
Even if the motherboard could take 8GB, that would be a waste of money since 32-bit Windows cannot address more than approximately 3.2 GB of it.

People who install 8GB (or more) RAM have a compatible motherboard and are using 64-bit Windows where the 3.2GB limit does not apply
