Hi guy's,

Bit of an odd one here, I have a Corsair 600M which has always been solid no issues.

However when I move my tower or fiddle with the power cable when I switch it on it hisses.

After a few attempts of adjusting the power cable it stops of which I'm obviously switching it all off and the PSU switch while I do this.

I do have the computer backed up quite tight to the wall and I'm wondering if its the pressure on the connector to the back of the PSU that's causing it.

I've been using it for months with no hissing or anything whatsoever works perfect but like today I moved my tower and it started again, few adjustments with the cable now its fine again?

Anyone got any clue of the issue and is it major?

The AC cord end isn't making proper contact with the prongs inside the PSU's...

Its not making the sound now, it only does it if I move the power cable then switch it back on kind of like a bad connection then when I adjust it and switch it back on its fine.

Like I said the PC is backed up quite close to the wall and the stiff power cable is bent, I'm thinking the pressure on the connection between the PSU socket and the cable is what's causing it?

Loose AC power cable in the PSU's AC socket next to its power switch can cause arcing that will sound like hissing. This is not a good thing.

If the AC cable end doesn't fit properly (i.e. doesn't fit all the way in) or is loose in the PSU's AC socket then the AC cable should be replaced.

Its the cable that came with it, I'm thinking the pressure from the wire bent against the wall is probably what's making it loose or unstable, the thing is when its fine like it is now I don't like the idea of messing around with it because we all know what can happen.

What do you recommend? the next time I'll be moving my PC is in a month or so when I upgrade my Cooler and CPU, should I just leave it till then and see how it acts next time (I'll be extra careful) or do you think it needs immediate attention?

This is the thing I can leave it there for months with no problems, its only when I move the case and the AC cable get's disturbed it does this.

The AC cord end isn't making proper contact with the prongs inside the PSU's AC socket due to the stress on the cord being pushed up against the wall. The solution is to move it away from the wall so it isn't being bent or get yourself one of these right-angle AC power cords:

Genius!

Exactly what I need, I'm in the UK though so are there any particular specs I need it to have? I'll need one with a UK plug like one of these I'm guessing?

Ok will do.

I just unplugged it all to read the cable specs (10A-250v 0.75mm) pulled the PC away from the wall and made sure the cable was nice, straight and with no pressure on the wire and it made no crackling sound at all so it was definitely the cable pressure.

I've kept it away from the wall until I get this new cord tomorrow, I just hope there's no lasting damage but it seems ok.

Thanks again, weight off my mind now.

Hi,

Just to report back I got the cable today, first time I hooked it up and not one crackle or hiss, working perfectly with zero pressure on the PSU socket and prongs.

You probably spared me eventually damaging my PSU so thanks, if I'd known I could order those things (Right angled cable) I'd have done it ages ago.
