I have a hp pavillion a 522n, it won't boot. I just see the light from the power button blinking and in the back. It started acting up after a stormy night. I didn't have the computer on so I cannot understand how it is possible that the lighting might affect the computer. How can I fix it? I want to do it on my own. Thanks.
Take a paperclip, now open up your pc tower and disconnect the big 24pin harness form the motherboard, now take the paper clip and put one end in the hole for the green wire in the middle of the harness and put the other end of the paperclip into one of the surrounding black wires.
This will trick the psu into thinking the motherboard told it ot turn on and if it comes on then the psu is fine and we can move on to testing other things.
A lot of HPs have flashing light codes as well as beeps to indicate some problems. Try looking at the link below which may be of help. Hopefully it is something simple and easy to fix. Alas, unless the PC is pretty much isolated from the mains i.e. unplugged and any mains attached peripherals it is possible if there is a really nasty power surge for damage to be done
