my gtx 770 says the memory is only running at 3800 mhz HELP

Solution

No, I want you to try random safe values. For example, the default memory clock for your card is 7000 mhz. So try any value between 7000 - 7010. Each time you...
Make sure that you set the 2d and 3d profiles to your new clock rate.

The rate you're getting sounds like it's reverting to the 2d mode memory clock.

If setting both profiles does not fix the issue, it's a bios issue. The only way to fix that is to flash the card with a custom bios.

sorry, I'm new to overclocking and I saw the 3d and 2d options earlier i just don't remember where they were can you tell me where i would find it to change it to 3d memory mode?

how would i "set the values" and activate the profile?

First set the values in afterburner to the desired amount, then click the apply button on the bottom right. After that, to the left, you will see numbers indicating profile number. Click on the save button and select one of the profile numbers. You now have that profile saved. In order for that profile to take effect though, make sure that the profile is selected in the profile tab in settings.

Another note: If done correctly, under settings > profiles, you should see your core clock and mem clock speed on your profile.

Ya I understand all that, I actually started by watching a tutorial before trying anything. But for some reason with my overclocking my vram is 3800 mhz and without overclock the vram is at 3500mhz. However I'm still running planetside 2 on
High settings at 60-100fps with no action and around 28-40 fps in battles

Hm sounds like a bios issue but I don't want to jump to conclusions. I will research issues with your particular card and see if I can't up with another solution. In my experience, when this happened to me, I had to flash the bios. Due note that you could destroy your graphics card if you do this.

Hang on am I supposed to set my overclock for both 2d and 3d? Because I just set it for one or another never did both for 1 profile. Also I'm running windows 8 pro 64 bit but in my downloads a lot of my files say, in parenthesis, (32 bit). Could that be a problem maybe I'm in 32 bit windows on accident?

well i just checked my nvidia control panel and in the nvidia control panel under system information it says my memory data rate is 7010 MHz. So maybe i shouldn't be worried it could just be that afterburner isn't displaying the correct data rate or maybe it doesn't find the need to max out at 7010 MHz when using afterburner.

See if you can reproduce those results. Try different values as well.

are you saying to run my memory clock speed at like +3500 MHz (added to the already 3500 MHz) on afterburner? because jumping up that much might be dangerous right?

No, I want you to try random safe values. For example, the default memory clock for your card is 7000 mhz. So try any value between 7000 - 7010. Each time you switch the value and apply it in afterburner, you should be able to see the change within the nvidia control panel.

If I was to go back in time and recommend you a card, it would have been an amd video card. There software has a built in overclocking suite that is super easy for oc newcomers to get used to.

Well its not really the overoverclocking software I'm having trouble with this started right when I first booted afterburner for the first time. I've been reading online and some people uave this problem with my card and say it could be caused by the driver just not working correctly with my card (for some strange reason). So I'm going to wait till the next big nvidia driver to see if it corrects itself for the time being it runs all my games on ultra so I'm happy.

Your not alone in this issue, although my case is a bit different. Some GPUs wouldn't overclock for me until I flashed the bios. It's irritating even more because allot of these types of issues don't exist on reference cards. Lol what did I pay the extra money for?

Thanks for all your help it doesn't bother me too much that I can't overclock it properly because it can run exactly how I need it to run. Ya its lame that it occurs on the more high end cards of the same group (aftermarket compaines). Well in the future ill probably just buy another gtx 770 and sli it. The other lame thing is moving forward I didn't realize vram doesn't stack :/ till after I bought the 2gb version so looks like ill be upgrading sooner rather than later.
