GPU shadow rendering problem.

I'm having an issue with the way my GPU renders shadows. I'm running an HIS HD 7850 1gb card and nearly every game suffers from the same rendering issue at different levels. I can't figure out how to explain it well enough to search for a solution, but maybe you all can help me out.

In game, shadows render in what I can only describe as a straight wall. Walking forward, there is a noticeable straight line on the ground that moves with my character. Everything else about shadows looks fine, it's the radius around my character that seems boxed in. Not sure how common this is or what it's called. Any ideas?

System specs:

Windows 8 64 bit
AMD FX 6300
HIS Radeon HD 7850 1 gb
(Using 1080p HD TV as monitor)

EDIT: As of now, I'm not so much looking for solutions as I am trying to figure out if there is a name or diagnosis for this issue. If I can figure out what is happening in the first place, I'll have an easier time fixing it :)

Solution
Post a screenshot. Otherwise what it sounds like is the shadow lod (level of detail) plane and has to do with how games are optimized and turning up the detail will change it.

I'm afraid I've tried both of those options. As far back as the past year's drivers, they all have given me the same issue.
