Hello folks. This is my first thread in TH..

Currently I am considering upgrading my computer which was bought 4 years ago. The CPU is an I7-920 @3.9Ghz (overclocked) and it runs pretty stable so far. Memory is kingston 4GX3 @1333Mhz

I mainly use my comp as a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) as you know those softwares are CPU & Memory depedent. So I find my 920 runs OK for normal works, but fail to keep up with some bigger projects.
If I decide to upgrade my computer I think my target is Haswell 4770K.
So my question is:

Is now a good time to upgrade?
What kind of increase in performance can I expect, given that my old 920 has already overclocked @3.9Ghz.

Thank you.

I do not recommend that you upgrade just yet. I think you should upgrade next year, where DDR4, x99, haswell-e pci e 4.0 and lots of other cool stuff will be released.

Aggreed, haswell-e will be backwards compatible though, but we are expecting 8 core processors.

Its not worth it for you to upgrade just yet, you can go by with your current settup believe me, the most notable upgrade would be next year.

What you can do is get an SSD and install your OS and Programs ONLY, this will make compiling and decompiling ALLOT faster, also the editing process.

Thank you guys. Haswell E looks promising. I think I should wait til 2014 as you have suggested.
