installed MSO'10 on work XP, that had OO3.2 . install appeared fine.

following day, cannot find prog:
- NOT in ADD/REMOVE prog list, but, ...
- when click C-drive->Programs ... can observe MSO folders - but empty.
- tried to open an OO text/word file, using MSO'10, but was NOT option avail when choosing a prog to open the file with.

thoughts ? didn't want to remove OO before installing MSO'10, as it is a work computer- would have, had I known.

Just dl'd OO-update - Apache, new vers. Any thoughts on using that, with MSO'10.

last ? - is MSO'10 the 'latest' MSO-program, that XP can handle ? tried MSO'13, but XP declined. or, did this XP need more updating ??

You said it was a work computer, are there any policies in place that could remove Office?

I have worked in a place where they picked some computers not to get Office installed and use Open Office instead. If you installed Office on one of those computers, the next time you logged on, the policy would execute and delete the Office setup.

Office 2010 should work under XP.

thankyou - since it took an AdobeAcrobat'11 FULL installation, I assumed :(
that the policies were not present. poor assumption.
you present an EXCELLENT explanation - I thank you again. will fuddle around - perhaps OO even has a policy, preventing dual install.
