Case fan dying? And if so, do I need one for the time being?

I turned on my pc this morning and it sounded fine. I put my pc in sleep mode when i went to class and when I got home and woke up my pc it was making a strange sound. I thought it was dust because I haven't cleaned inside my pc in awhile. But after I cleaned it and turned it on again it booted up with the noise. Is my case fan dying? I don't know how to remove the front part of my case to see the fan itself and from I read the lubrication is gone and the metal is grinding. If my case fan is dying can I just disable it and use my pc as is while I wait for newegg to send me a new one for the rear of the case?

What is the PC model? You can disconnect the fan but your PC will run hotter if you only have one front fan. The power supply has a fan so you'll still get some air flow but I'd replace it as soon as possible.

I have no idea what the case model is. I bought it from ibuypower. It came with a rear fan but I upgraded my motherboard and the fan was not compatible. However most of my components are in the back of the pc and the only front ones is my DVD drive (which I rarely use) and my harddrive.

What do you mean by "the fan was not compatible"? Did the fan have a small 3 wire connection or a large 4 pin molex connector? They make adapters if your power supply only has SATA power. Also, the front fan brings in cool air so it's important

Sorry, that was very bad wording on my part. I didn't have a place to plug in my rear fan and that was almost a year ago so I most likely tossed it. I unplugged my front fan and the noise stopped. I am thinking about buying this:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835200048. Would that fan be a good replacement?
