I'm looking for a good printer for under $200. It needs to have color and I also would like it to have a copier built in. It will only be used to print a few papers here and there.

I'm very unfamiliar with anything in the printer market. All I know is that there are inkjets and laserjets. I don't know anything about printer models and pros and cons of inkjets and laserjets either. Lastly, ink replacements. I've been hearing people say how expensive ink replacements are. I've even heard that buying an ink cartridge is more expensive than getting a new printer, which I think is crap. Now I'm confused whether this is for all printers, inkjets, or laser jets.

Any recommendations of printers I should consider would be nice. Thanks guys!

for inkjets, i just buy a new one. lol. same with my last laser printer too. wait till one is on sale cheap cheap cheap, buy it, ditch it when it runs out of ink. Sad, but true.

As for the difference, inkjets use an actually ink. for color printing, this gets sucked up quick. color is bright and vivid though.

For laserjets, they apply a powder (toner) that is applied to the paper and a laser basically binds the powder to the paper.

Laserjets are more expensive for more toner but last a longer, the page doesn't smudge like it can on an inkjet, etc.

THIS^ You can buy an HP, Epson, Brother, blah, blah at Walmart for $30 that will do a perfectly adequate job of printing and copying. When the ink runs out, repeat the process. Printer manufacturers hope that once you get a printer you will not notice the price of ink as the black ALWAYS runs out first and will cost 60-75% of what your printer cost. Then the colors run out, but the black is OK, now you get to spend 200% to replace the colors as the printer won't work unless ALL cartridges are working. Nice of the makers, no?

If I don't wanna replace my printer everytime this happens, are laserjets for me and which ones do you recommend?

Also, why the heck are printers cheaper than ink lol that makes no sense at all. It costs more to manufacture the ink?
