I recently purchased a new Acer laptop computer. My modem is normally in the living room and my laptop is set up in the bedroom. I have a cheap laptop and an other laptop that I have used in this manner for years so I know it's possible to receive a strong wireless signal in this room. My new laptop however will not connect. I searched and found that many others are having this problem with this particular model. As a temporary work around I have taken to running a line from the jack in the living room and moved the modem in here. But that's not a permanent solution. Should I get a new wifi card installed(is that even possible or is it part of the mother board?) Or is there a way to fix this in some other way? Thanks to anyone that can help.

You can try an inexpensive USB wifi adapter.
