The instruction for this cooler have the fan plug in to the fan out on the pump and the pump connects to the CPU fan power by a 3 pin connector. That means the pump and fan will be pulling a load on the CPU fan plug...that seems like too much to me. Can I plug the fan into a separate MB fan plug to split the load?

Solution

I would advise against it, being as i have a x60 and i know how they work, they have a fan splitter on them which splits the single so the CPU fan is running the pump (which doesn't pull very much power or wattage. Then from there the actually fan is driven by the splitter itself, so really its just like putting a fan splitter on the same CPU pin connector, it doesn't draw much amperage at all. Hope this helps feel...

Exactly so the only thing you are controlling is the fan, the other one just monitors it. There is no voltage going to the 3 pin that controls the x40 rad, or the cpu unit, its just a desktop monitor. Like a fan controller only with a liquid cooling system.
