I want to upgrade the cpu on my old Sony Vaio VGC-RB50. I'm wondering what you would recommend for it.

I have Windows 7 64-bit on it with 4Gb ram, an NVDIA GT 610 (1024) graphics card and ASUS DX Xonar soundcard.

Info from Speccy:
Intel Mobo D915GRO (J2E1)
Version r4939244
Chipset Model i915/i915G

Intel Pentium 4 640
Prescott
Socket 775 LGA
90nm
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.2GHx

Thanks

There are no viable CPU upgrades for that system. It does not support c2d CPU's so the best thing to do is upgrade the whole thing.

Thanks for your quick response, much appreciate it.
Just to clarify, when you say upgrade the whole thing, do you mean the whole motherboard, or the whole machine itself? It's still working pretty well for what i do, but since i do a lot of music processing, i was just pondering on the possibility of having it run quicker than it does, which is already pretty decent for me.

Thanks,
D.

Thanks for the responses guys. You kinda helped put my mind to rest about upgrading my machine. I'll just probably keep it working for a bit more till i'm ready to get a newer one, and will be taking my graphics and sound cards with me then.

I very much agree there. At this point anything made in the last couple years is a huge upgrade over that P4. If only a basic machine is needed, while I am not exactly a dell fan, dell outlet is a good place to look.
