Screen doesn't display. HELP PLEASE! Sony Laptop VAIO

The display on my Sony Vaio Laptop is black and doesn't display anything. Although I restarted my computer to attempt to fix the problem, I heard the windows jingle, which means that the laptop is working, but there isn't anything displayed. The fan works, the sound work, the brightness adjustment work but it is slightly black and I can't seem to troubleshoot it. I even tried attaching it to my TV with a VGB or RGB cord (whatever it's called) with no luck it didn't have any signal.

PLEASE HELP. I'm desperate to get my PC back. I have a lot to do and I need a good solution. Any tech support? I'm pretty dis-satisfied with Sony right now.

What model of Vaio do you have? Have you tried any other connections to the TV other than the VGA connector?

If it's what I'm thinking, it could be a tricky fix but I really need the model number here and any information of issues leading up to this

First off, I would like to thank you for helping me out. Considering all the responses... I got from... Sony.

Anyways I'll update the model number when I get home. Second I uninstalled this program called AutoCad. AutoCad can be found here. It is safe and is used at my school to work with computer software engineering. Anyways it prompted me two things...
1.) Uninstall and Restart
or
2.) Shutdown all programs and uninstall.
after I uninstalled I couldn't do anything except CRTL + ALT DEL.
I logged in normally and all my programs were there...
I logged off normally, went to sleep, went to school, came home, turned laptop on and no display.

Oh and I decided I wanted to shutdown all programs and uninstall which rid my desktop icons, task bar, etc leaving me with the autocad box opened and the desktop wallpaper. Could the shutdown programs be the problem.

I really need the model number so I have an idea of what kind of hardware I'm looking at inside but depending upon what was uninstalled, that could very well be the issue here. Did you make recovery disks for your system and do you have them?

There is a utility program called Hiren's BootCD http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd I'm going to suggest you download it and install it on a CD. You should be able to use it to diagnose the problem with your laptop - I'm thinking a corrupted operating system here

Is this safe? In addition, what if it wasn't the corrupted operation system? Will I lose files? Will you still help me after I go about doing this?

I'm a little cautious, and I know little about what the Hiren Boot CD is and what to do during startup with the CD and what to do if it doesn't work. Help.

Hiren's is safe to use but there are a few utilities on there that I don't really consider "user friendly". I'll be here for any questions you have as you go (internet connection dependent since my ISP has been flaky the last few days - supposed to be fixed now).
If it isn't the OS, Hirem's will let us know that
This video is rather good IMO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ejtm7J7Wqyk for how to set up the CD and start it - BTW your CD drive should be first in boot order by default so unless the CD you make refuses to run, you shouldn't need to worry about the BIOS part near the end

How did you go about shutting down all your programs?
