I am getting ready to fire up my system listed in my signature as soon as my OS gets here. I went to Asus's website and I have the BIOS update for the new 4930k...but I understand the chipset drivers need to be updated as well to run that CPU. This is the warning on PC PartPicker..."Some Intel X79 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Ivy Bridge-E CPUs".

I assume the new chipset drivers are included in the BIOS flash correct? What else does the flash include?

When flashing the BIOS...do I just load the CAP file on the USB flashdrive or do I put the zipped file on it and then unzip it there?

I'm not sure about all the other driver downloads listed for this MB there either....as far as which ones I need or dont.

Solution
Then yes, you have to update the BIOS. Download, unzip the file and rename it to P9X79PRO.CAP.
Save the file on a FAT formatted USB drive and connect the drive to the Flashback USB port (white interior, near the Flashback/BIOS button).
Connect the power supply and turn it on, but don't start the board.
Press the Flashback button for 3 seconds.

Ok...never mind...I see it says "Some Intel X79 chipset motherboards"...not the chipset itself. I assume that is the entire purpose of the BIOS flash.

Also...I am not going to do raid but I understand I have to set it to raid then back to AHCI afterwards?

Gotta run but will be back later.

EDIT...found the answer to original question for the most part but.....

When connecting the SATA power cables...how many drives on one cable is safe or optimum? I have one SSD, one HDD and one ODD plus the external drive bay on the 350D case which will only have a drive on it occasionally.

Good...I was planning on connecting the SSD and HDD on one cable and the ODD and the case's drive bay on another. I have plenty cables but those flat cables with four plugs each get unruly.

Another question...will I be able to use a wireless mouse and keyboard when I first fire this up or do I need wired? I have the Logitek Unified wireless setup...the only other ones I have has the PS/2 connections which the MB doesnt have.

Oh...the BIOS flash went well...took longer than I thought it would...like 2 minutes or so...but no fireworks at least.

Great. No I havent started it yet. The pump light and MB lights came on ok when I flashed it. I was going to wait for my monitor and DP cable that will be here Monday...but I may just break down and use this one tomorrow....YES!!...its killing me!! lol Worst part has been sitting at the UPS place 5 miles away for the weekend!

I must have gone over every connection 10 times now and checked for potential grounds at least that many times. Everything looks good physically speaking. I just got the Y cable that lets me hook the front USB 3 ports to the header on the MB instead of running the 2 cables out the back...WTH were they thinking on that! Otherwise its a nice well configured case.

I'll report back when I get it going. I'm just holding on to this thread in case I run into any problems. I appreciate all your help so far alexoiu.

Well everything seems to work ok. I loaded the OS and then put Avast on it...then updated windows and the Titan driver. The CPU temp around 20C at idle. I ran Prime 95 for about a half hour and it never went past 38C...and was still quiet. The PSU fan never came on at all...voltages all looked good in Asus AI. I still need to figure out the stress test stuff though.

Still not sure about the other drivers on Asus MB support page...do I have to do all the Chipset, Audio, USB, LAN and so on all separately?

Done. Windows experience of 78...whatever that means in the real world.

I need to do some BIOS investigatin' too. Under boot devices it has options of UEFI or Legacy...or both. Even under storage and network setting. Isnt Legacy like IDE drives? I thought I only have UEFI. When I first started it up I got codes on the MB AE...A2...and its mostly on AA. Sometimes it is 80...but I dont see a code for that in the manual.
I need to find something to use some power also...the PSU still hasnt come on or is barely spinning. I need to make sure it works.
